Cycle for Capuchin Day Centre was first established as 'The Great Escape' Cycle in 2010 by friends Fergal Flynn and Paul Kelly. Both had a keen interest in cycling, an awareness of the good work of The Capuchin Day Centre, and also in the town of Belmullet, Co. Mayo! The event was soon changed to 'Cycle for Brother Kevin', in honour of the main man.
What started as an informal group of 6 cyclists in 2010 has now grown into a massively successful organised event which will be limited to 100 cyclists in 2023 with the ultimate aim of raising more funds for this worthy cause. The Event raised over €105,000 in 2019 alone.
The cycle this year will travel to Clifton in Galway, the cycle will leave Westmanstown on Friday 5 May 2023, overnight in Ballinasloe, arriving into Clifden on the evening of 6 May 2023. With the much deserved retirement of Brother Kevin in 2022, this year the event has been renamed 'Cycle for Capuchin Day Centre'.
